Beth (currently in foster care with Boleyn Cane Corso)

Beth came to Boleyn Cane Corso in August 2011 through Iron Mountain Dog Rescue. Beth had been found wandering the streets in 2009 and had spent the time since in boarding kennels. Unfortunately for Beth her initial sanctuary was a place where the dogs were never walked or promoted so until the new owners took over in 2010 she had pretty much stayed under the re-homing radar.

I must admit when the subject of Beth coming to Boleyn for assessment, foster and rehabilitation I was very wary, as my last rescue from Battersea Dogs Home had ended in the dog being put to sleep because of Rage Syndrome.  I had became very attached to him, so really did not want to get my heart broken again.

With much persuasion I decided to give Beth a chance, she was driven up from Somerset by her new kennel owners and I must admit the first time I saw her she was pulling like a train on the lead and very aloof with me. I allowed Beth to settle in a few weeks before really starting her training.  At first it was one-on-one time with treats, she had no manners and was easily excitable but after a while she calmed down and I began to see the real Beth. Beth loves life! She loves to play with the dogs here at Boleyn, she loves to please and most of all she loves lots and lots of cuddles.

She is protective of the car but I have been working on that slowly, her pulling is counteracted by a Dogmatic (at first even her wearing it was a battle of wills but a battle I had to be sure of winning). She is obedient, has great recall and has reacted well to any dogs coming into her space while out on our walks.

I have taken my time in exposing her to new situations and places but last week I am very happy to say that she came to a boot sale and was as good as gold, interacted with everyone very well and although interested in the other dogs there, it was never in an aggressive manner. Beth also LOVES food, she really enjoys her full BARF diet here and will happily munch down on a very heavy vegetable mix whereas some of mine look at me like I am mad when cabbage is on the menu.

Beth is a Corso that bonds hard with her owner. She is very attached to me and will seek me out in most situations when she becomes unsure.  The unsureness I am seeing is less and less, and now I see a very confident dog, just desperate for love and attention.  A dog very calm once exercised and on the whole no bother at all. When out I can let Beth freely run off the lead, she has a mad 10 mins when she runs and runs and runs and runs as if she has never run before in her life but after that time she is much more settled and does not stray far from my side.

Beth is also a very protective Corso, well she is a Corso's Corso! It is not overdone but it is there and someone that is interested in Beth would need prior knowledge of a guardian breed.

This week I am starting Beth with her crate training, so wish me luck.

I don't think Beth likes cats too much, but she is fine with teenage children and likes little dogs.

I hope that Beth can find her forever home before Christmas, she is a very rewarding dog, a dog that although protective, does take her cues from her owner and would make someone a really outstanding dog.

Eddie (currently in foster care in Oxfordshire)

Eddie is a very handsome Cane Corso.  He is currently in a foster home where he is enjoying being with other dogs and having lots of fun.  He is quite a submissive male that is looking for confident owners.  Eddie's recall is not too bad with his foster carer but still needs more work.

Eddie will need more training and will need at least 1 hour of exercise a day.  He is neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
