The BCCS aims to provide support and advice for any and all shelters that think they may have had a Corso surrendered to them, including:

• Help with identification of the breed
• Help finding the original breeder where possible and contacting said breeder
• Sourcing suitable foster care if necessary
• Recommending and informing other relevant rescue organisations
• Profiling and advertising dogs on the BCCS and FOCC sites
• Assisting with vetting potential owners and home checks
• Sending out a rescue pack to shelters advising them of our existence
• Assessing dogs in shelters if requested
• Providing after-adoption support for owners through the FOCC

Members of the BCCS rehome team will also assist with private rehoming if approached by the legal owner of the Corso in question to do so. Dogs surrendered to the BCCS will be:

• Wherever possible and practicable, cared for in an environment similar to where they have come from
• Traced back to their original breeder where possible and returned to them if it is the dog’s best interests to do so
• Given all necessary veterinary care, and spayed/neutered before any permanent placement
• Assessed formally, and a profile sent to any rescue the BCCS feel will give a broader chance of rehoming the dog successfully
• Microchipped if not already
• Given a lifetime of support through the rehome team and FOCC website
• Rehomed only to vetted owners in a home checked home

The BCCS has a strong working relationship with Battersea Dogs Home. The BCCS is called to assist in the assessment and foster of all Cane Corsos that Battersea obtains.
